Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder; Oil-Free "101 Invisible Matte"

Last summer, I was on the quest for a pressed powder compact to use for a finishing powder and to toss in my purse for touch-ups on the go.  I wanted something that was "matte" for my oily/combination skin and something that was "translucent" and would not add any color to my skin.

After doing some research and reading reviews, I came across Clinique's Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder in 101 "Invisible Matte".  I have to say, this is a very good powder; it's very sheer and natural-looking and helps keep the shine down.  However, I was quite disappointed when the powder compact broke all apart on me!

I read about other people having the same problem with this compact breaking apart.  I hope Clinique has addressed this problem and corrected it since then.  I think it has to do with the powder itself, which is so soft and finely-milled that the slightest tap makes it break into pieces!

When I went to my Clinique Counter at Nordy's to check out the Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder, I decided on "101 Invisible Matte", which would not add any color--just provide a matte finish.  The beauty consultant had discovered that ALL of the pans were defective!  Every pan was "cracked" or about to crack.  She said they all came in the shipment that way and she was waiting on more to arrive.  Well, there was one compact that looked okay.  There was one very teenie-tiny flaw in the powder (chip), but I decided to buy it anyway.

After a couple of uses, the pressed powder had started to fall apart.  Well, the whole idea of having this powder was to be able to keep it in my purse for touch-ups; and now with the compact a complete mess, I have to leave it at home.  I decided not to return it because I really did like this powder and I figured all of the other compacts would fall apart, just the same.  Oh well.

It is a very good powder, nonetheless.  But, I would go to the Clinique counter to inspect this powder first before you decide to buy it.

Anywho...this is what happened to mine :(

  1. I have this but it's not invisible. I've dropped mine a few times but fortunately that has never happened. What a bummer.

    1. This powder is very delicate. The only downside is that it's difficult to travel with when it breaks apart....it is a very good powder though. Thanks for the comment :)

  4. Add rubbing alcohol and mix the broken powder in to a paste. Let it dry over night, maybe even 2 days to be safe, and it will be good as new.
